This Weekend; 4 New Movies

This weekend at the box office, Americans are getting four major studio releases. First, Sharon Stone hopes to shock audiences again with Basic Instinct 2, a thriller about a detective investigating a known novelist, who winds up in a complex game of seductions and crime. Next, the horror flick Slither will worm it's way into theaters this weekend. The dark comedy/horror film focuses in on a town that is overtaken by a mysterious species, which turns everyone into zombies or strange monsters.

As if those two weren't enough, the "new American classic" known as ATL is opening as well. (For those of you like me who are wondering what those initials stand for, it's shorthand for Atlanta.) The film tells the tale of four friends from the 'hood, who are trying to make their way in life after high school. They also spend their time talking about their lives at their local rollerstaking rink. (Not the mall?) Despite how "generic" it sounds, this film has been getting pretty good reviews from critics.

Finally, the fourth film opening in theaters this weekend is no sloth - though it does feature one! Ice Age 2: The Meltdown takes center stage at your local movie house, debuting on a record 3,963 screens. There are only four films before Ice Age 2 that have had more screens on opening day. (If you want to check out the widest openings in American history, click this link here.) This film focuses on the animals trying to survive the end of the ice age, when everything starts to melt in comedic fashions. As you might recall, TDI does not have a high opinion of the first film. (Scroll down to the bottom.) That being said, TDI is confident that Ice Age 2 will be the clear champion at the box office this weekend.

We'll also give you an update on the stock market, you can sound smart when you're talking amongst friends. Check back this weekend to find out how all four of these films did in Weekends at TDI!
