Iraq's President Jalal Talabani (which is too close to "Taliban" for my taste. Anyways...) says that by the end of the year, there may be enough Iraqi forces trained to replace 50,000 US forces, or 35% of the US military troops currently in Iraq.

But American officials say "we're not talking about 'dat, foo". Iraqi says "Ja, Ja, we can do it!", while the Pentagon is like "until we further review the situation, we have no comment on whether or not we have reviewed said policy, and whether or not we have decided to withdraw as many troops as the aforementioned president of a soverign nation has indicated might be possible."
