Devestation in China

From Reuters: The current death toll from a flash flood that happened Friday has jumped to 64. The flood smashed through a primary school in the mountainous northeast, killing 62 children. This according to the Xinhau news agency. More than 350 children, aged 6-14, as well as 31 teachers, were at the school when the flood hit.

Most of the town of Shalan is still under 3 feet of water. Due to the flood, an ensuing landslide also swept through the town. All of the injured are reportedly in stable condition. Beijing News said that the torrent was so fierce and strong, 23 first and second grade students were drowned and washed away.

Earlier this week, days of heavy rains and floods in southern China killed more than 200 and destroyed nearly 138,000 homes. China suffers from widespread flooding and dought every year, causing huge loss of life.
