Does baby fat contribute to obesity?
When a baby grows up pudgy, most of the time parents don't even pay close attention, simply saying that the kid will outgrow it. But is that actually the case? A new study from the University of California, San Diego says that preschool-age children who are overweight before age five are five times more likely to be overweight at age 12 than those who were not overweight before age five. For the study, researchers collected data on over 1,000 children born in 1991. Overall, the study concludes that 60% of children who were overweight at any time during the preschool years, and 80% of children who were overweight during elementary school, were still overweight at age 12.
