Hurricane Names Retired

The National Hurricane Center announced that 5 names from the 2005 Atlantic hurricane season has been "retired." That decision coming down from a international hurricane committee, the World Meteorological Organization. We will never again have a Hurricane Dennis, Katrina, Rita, Stan, or Wilma. All five presented the type of devestation (loss of life and/or property). These names won't be used again for sensititivy reasons, and for scientific and legal consistancy.

For those of you making charts at home, the 2011 season will now have Don, Katia, Rina, Sean, and Whitney in place of the newly-retired five. Since storms were first named in 1953, 67 names have been retired.

The names for the 2006 season are as follows: Alberto, Beryl, Chris, Debby, Ernesto, Florence, Gordon, Helene, Issac, Joyce, Kirk, Leslie (Ann Brown?), Michael, Nadine, Oscar, Patty, Rafael, Sandy, Tony, Valerie, and William. (source)

I have a paper with the names for 2006. I had one for last year and I always highlighted the ones we've had already.
