Murder Linked to Sesame Street
Scott Deojay, 36, has been charged with capital murder in the case of a jogger who was found dead, battered and bound, in a shed owned by the actor who plays "Big Bird" on Sesame Street. Deojay is the caretaker of that actor. Deojay told police that he accidentally hit Judith Nilan with his car on December 12, 2005, and panicked, according to a sworn statement. He then hid her body on Caroll Spinney (Big Bird)'s property, where he works as a caretaker. Spinney had no involvement, according to the police. (Big Bird's clean, ya'll)
State police are refuting Deojay, saying that Nilan's injuries are not consistent with being hit by a car, and her death has been ruled as a homicide. Deojay says that police added the details of her being bound, because they wanted to be "sensational". Deojay has a bond of $2 million. Prosecutors have not yet said if they will seek the death penalty against the accused.
Deojay is next due back in court on February 15, 2006.
