It Was Beauty Killed the Competition

Peter Jackson's remake of the classic King Kong took top honors at the cinemas, but with less-than-anticipated results. Overall, the Box Office was up only slightly from last week, but up a sizable margin from this time last year. Sarah Jessica Parker's The Family Stone opened in a distant third place from Kong, raking in well over $12 million. The controversial Brokeback Mountain came in eight place, with only 69 theaters this weekend. In contrast, King Kong premiered with 3,568 theaters to it's name.
