An American Tragedy

This year, we've seen Jude Law and Sienna Miller break up, under less-than-savory circumstances. And of course, there's the Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston breakup, which ultimately is OK, because we gained the "Bragelina" monicker. Those are the most important celebrity breakups of the year. But what's the 3rd biggest? Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey.

Millions across America wept this Thanksgiving weekend as the couple announced that their much-rumored split was, in fact, official. "After three years of marriage, and careful thought and consideration, we have decided to part ways," the couple announced in a joint press release. "This is the mutual decision of two people with an enormous amount of respect and admiration for each other."

In the Dec '05-Jan '06 issue of Teen People, Jessica Simpson denied that the marriage was on the rocks."Hopefully mine and Nick's story will continue for the rest of our lives, like what we vowed, through sickness and in health." The couple wedded in October 2002, and documented their early married life on the popular MTV show, Newleyweds: Nick & Jessica.

TDI has confidence that Nick will do all right in the future. But we're concerned about Jessica. I mean, will she go into seclusion, only to come out 8 months later with a comeback tour, and a new syndicated talk show? Yes, no, er. . . I mean, we just plain don't know!
