9/11 Coverage

File Under: Television Programming
All cable news networks will have special coverage of the 9/11 memorials, in their regular live newscasts. Here are some special programs airing over the weekend that are worth a look:

CNN's Twists of Fate: Stories of 9/11 - Airing Sunday at 8 pm & 11 pm ET, Aaron Brown profiles five people whose lives have been changed in a dramatic and suprising way following 9/11. One person if a flight attendant whose life was saved by a typo. Another woman lost her fiance, and then ended up in a bitter courtroom fight over compensation funds. Discovery's The Flight that Fought Back - Airing Sunday at 9 pm ET, commercial free, this docu-movie traces the dramatic story of Flight 93. Using cell phone calls, recordings, and input from family members of the deceased, and interviews with the "widest range" of family members ever assembled, the majority of this documentary will be based in personal stories told by family members and direct witnesses. You can find out a whole lot more about this special by clicking here.

National Georgraphic's Inside 9/11 - A 4-hour block of documentary programming begins at 1 pm ET on the NGC, as they present their in-depth Inside 9/11 series once again. You can find out more on these special programs by clicking here.

The History Channel - With 2 specials on Saturday night, and 3 on Sunday, the History channel has the most special coverage devoted to 9/11, more than any other network. On Sunday at 7 pm ET, there's Osama's Hideouts, which traces UBL's pasts and his shady movements. At 8, there's The Man Who Predicted 9/11, which traces one man's disastear-scenario evacuation plan that he made up long before 9/11, but he feared that Usama bin Laden would use jets to hit the towers. His "crazy" plan ultimately saved 3,000 lives. That man's body was never recovered. Then at 9 pm ET, there's Grounded on 9/11, which details the behind-the-scenes of the FAA following the immediate grounding of all aircraft as a result of 9/11. More on their schedule can be found here.

And... that's about it. It's been 4 years. We've all greived, and most have moved on. And that translates into every aspect of life, even television. But we, as Americans, made a vow that day to Never Forget. And we will not. But as 3,000+ were killed in senseless murderous acts, many more than that may be dead by an act of God in the south, and their grief is still very fresh, and very real.

So as we look back at 9/11, as we see the images played again, it is important that we also do not forget about the victims of Katrina, who still need our help, who are still hurting and suffering.

More on 9/11 and Katrina on TDI over the weekend.
