- At least 13 people are dead after a Tunisian airliner plunged into the Mediterranean sea while trying to make an emergancy landing in Sicily. The plane reportedly lost engine power while in the air. There are 23 survivors, with 3 people still missing. Survivors clung to peices of the plane while waiting to be rescued. The plane crashed 10 miles off of the coast.
- London police have charged Yassin Hassan Omar with conspiracy to murder and possession of explosives. Omar, 24, is one of the suspects in the failed July 21 bombings. He is also charged with attempted murder, making or possessing an explosive substance with intent to endanger life or cause serious injury, and conspiracy to use explosives.
- Daniel Pearl Murder Case Update: Hashim Qadeer has confessed to working with high-level al-Qaeda operatives. Qadeer is accused of arranging a meeting between WSJ reporter Pearl and his kidnappers. Qadeer was arrested on July 28.
- Typhoon Matsa pounded Taiwan, leaving an estimated $1.47 million (US dollars) in damage to the island's main industries. So far, no deaths are reported. The storm is now churning towards mainland China.
- Another Amtrak train collides with a dump truck. This time, it happened in Somis, California. 20 people were injured, 2 of them seriously. Tuesday, a train hit a dump truck in N. Carolina, killing the 2 passangers on the truck.
- Good Morning America is going High-Definition. It will be the first network commercial news program to go HD. They're constantly making preporations. One of the biggest challenges when going HD is the makeup. In HD, you can see EVERY pore in the skin, so make-up becomes even more challenging!
