Special Editions!
File Under: DVD's
OK, see, unlike a fair chunk of the population, when I buy a DVD, I'll maybe watch the movie as-is. I like the documentaries, the special features, and the commentary. I love seeing how a movie was put together, and all the work that it took to pull it off. I am amazed at the depth and how much work goes into a single movie. Hundreds and hundreds of people work extremely hard, for a few hours to keep us entertained. It's a amazing, mind-boggling business, really. But when a company releases a DVD, then about 6 months later announces a "special edition" with about 500 hours of extra material, it gets frustrating. This practice is known as "double-dipping", and is frowned upon. Either announced both at the same time, release them both at the same time, or just wait to release the ultimate collectors edition.
But it's good to see these behind-the-scenes-heavy sets coming out for movies that you like, but don't own the DVD's to. Such as, Gladiator, Toy Story, and The Truman Show. Yes, there will be a collectors edition of The Truman Show, with a documentary, deleted scenes, and everything. So I shall try to pass up picking up those 3 movies for $7 or whatever they sell for in the bargain bins, and wait until the collectors sets go down in price. After all, they've got what I'm after, and that's more and more extra's! ^_^

Yeah. I wounder if Peter Jackson would try to put the "silimerins" or what ever you call them on screen, or re-do the hobit.

The Silmarillion would be impossible to make into one movie. One could easily glean several movies out of it, (some of them quite good, too) but on a whole it'd be like trying to make a movie out of a history book.
There are rumors that Jackson wants to make a Hobbit movie, but nothing has been set up as of yet. There are some legal issues with the rights, I believe.
Which reminds me, in classic Lit class this year, we watched a cartoon version of the hobbit, and it was quite possibly one of the most tragically disturbing and horrid movies I've ever seen. If given to opportunity to see a cartoon hobbit, TURN IT DOWN!!!!
Thats nothing. Have you seen the feature length films "Watership down" or "Animal farm"? I watched "watership" down, and I was marked for life. From that point on I was fully aware of the evils of communism. (Mind you I was only 8 or so.) Animal farm is so depressing I went off my feed and mooned about thinking over the evils of communism. (this was in May) The theme song is cool though...
