Uhh.....

Steven Speilberg says that his new movie, War of the Worlds, will have images that will remind many of the post-9/11 climate. People running in droves from unknown intruders, fearing for their lives. He's said that this "climate" following the attacks is the best time to release such a movie. Prey upon people's fears, and they'll reward you with $300 million in gross sales. Or something like that.

But War of the Worlds isn't the only movie possible under this "new climate", which kinda took a couple years for Hollywood to notice. (and now, as a culture, we've gotten back up, and moved along. Hollywood's slow to catch on.) No, another movie coming out that is only possible in this climate of "fear" and wondering about terrorism is...

Stealth.

For those who haven't seen the trailers, it's about a robotic Stealth fighter which, upon being struck by lightning, suddenly becomes self-aware. And as such, becomes dramatically hellbent on destroying humanity. Rob Cohen, the director, says "There is a fear now that there is an invisible enemy that is all over the place. And we have to come up with a technological answer to this new reality."

Yeah. Invisible robotic planes blowing stuff up. That become hellbent after being struck by lightning. Lightning, of course, is a dramatic robotic plot device, which helps to insert a brain, thought, feelings, and other human functions into a lifeless machine whenever you need a cheesy movie made.

Hollywood spends a couple years being quiet, then decides that because of 9/11, we can have aliens and robots attacking humans. Which, I think was being done since early cinema. *sigh*
